Why Write for MacZealots?

MacZealots reaches a broad audience with different backgrounds and lifestyles, but share one thing in common: their love of the Mac platform. Writing for MacZealots can bring job leads, speaking engagements or even books deals if you are a skillful writer. Beyond financial gains, you will gain notoriety amongst your peers as a key source on the topic you choose to cover.

What We're Looking For

We are looking for content that is unique, interesting and detailed. We love content that makes Mac users think, gets them excited and makes them want to change the way they work to incorporate your knowledge. We want experts on a topic to help our readers understand it. We want content that makes the Mac community better.

What We're Not Looking For

There are several sites and magazines that discuss the Mac platform who have already written great content. We have also written great content in the past, and we don't want to rehash that stuff. There are already several articles around the Web on how to back up your Mac or sync your iPod with iTunes. If you can bring a unique spin on it, you can submit it to our editors.

More importantly, we do not want to republish any content you have published elsewhere: including your blog.

How To Contribute

If you think you have a great idea for an article for MacZealots, the first thing you should do is submit that idea to our editors. We usually will get back to you withing 48 hours with a response. If your topic needs a bit of work, we will work with you to fully hash out the idea and content that should be included in the article.

Once your article's topic has been fully fleshed out, you will go about actually writing the article and submitting a first draft to our editors. Each of our editors will read your article and provide feedback to you. The next step is to submit a second draft to our editors that incorporates any changes we brought up during the first draft. Again, our editors will review the article and either approve it, or ask for a final round of revisions.

Along with your article, please include any relevant screenshots to help bring your idea to life. We have always been big on visuals at MacZealots, and that will never changes. Screenshots break up the article and make it easier to swallow complex topics.

Guidelines

Length: MacZealots is looking for feature-length articles that are between 1500 and 3000 words. It should also include a standard title, subtitle in the style that we use at MacZealots. You should also include your author bio.

Flow: When writing your article, make sure that your article is easy to read. When appropriate, break your articles content apart with section headers, bulleted lists and tables. It's hard to read an article that is just one giant paragraph!

Graphics: Make sure all of your screenshots are against a clean, white background. The best way to do this is using John Haney's Backdrop (http://www.johnhaney.com/backdrop/). Take full size screenshots and if you need to highlight a portion of a shot, use OmniGraffle's OmniDazzle to bring attention to it.
